Automatic translation is now available in the forum

The forum now supports automatic translation. No language tag any more: just write with your own language and every user will see the post in their language.

Supported languages: en, de, fr, pt (BR)

The translations are powered by a modern open-weight language model, Google’s Gemma 4 27B A4B. The “A4B” architecture means that only a small subset of the model is active for each generated token, significantly reducing computation and energy usage compared to traditional large models.

Based on recent research papers and conservative estimates, translating one forum post into one language has approximately the following operational impact:
:droplet: ~0.5 mL of water
:high_voltage: ~230 mWh of electricity
:factory: ~100 mg CO₂e

These numbers do not include training costs or the embodied impact of datacenter hardware. A reasonable rule of thumb is to add roughly 50% to account for those factors.
